So this image has been making the rounds around tumblr. And while some people are wigging out over the thought of Dick and Raquel ever being a couple, I have no problems with it. Clearly, he has great taste in women. Raquel is awesome. She’s strong, no nonsense, gorgeous, and we really haven’t seen enough of her in my humble opinion. In my head, they had this chill, casual thing where they had this mutual sort of “hey, you’re really cool and I want to get to know you better” type deal. And when things didn’t work out, there were no hard feelings. I don’t mind Dick dating Raquel, I don’t mind that he’s had multiple exes, the only possible problem I could have with the two of them is that they work together and interoffice dating isn’t always smiled upon (though the YJ team seems to make it their MO so really he’s not breaking any new ground there, nor is he treading anywhere he hasn’t been before).
But I digress. What I really want to comment on is Raquel and Zatanna. Do you see the animosity between them? You can’t? That’s right. Because their isn’t any. Zee talks references Dick’s ability to stay friends with all his exes but I’d like to applaud the fact that his exes can be friends as well. So often you see girls pitted against each other and hostile towards one another in the media. You’ll have the girlfriend and ex constantly duking it out to prove who’s better as both a person and as a significant other. There’s this constant need to compare and compete.
This clearly isn’t the case with Raquel and Zatanna (and maybe Babs? Jury’s out on the ex count). I think it’s great that these two awesome women can recognize and appreciate each other’s mutual awesomeness and not let relationship drama ruin things. They realize that a relationship is between the people in the relationship, you don’t have to bring in the exes. The ex is not inherently better or worse than the current SO because things in the relationship didn’t work out. Raquel and Zee are not only friendly but they can work together, trust each other with their very lives in fact. They aren’t pitted against each other because they dated the same guy and I appreciate that fact a lot. It speaks a lot of their maturity and confidence. So it’s cool that Nightwing can be friends with all his exes (I’m sure that’s a superpower many of us would like to have) but I think it’s just as super that his exes can be friends as well. Lagaan and Connor might want to take a few tips out of their book (though I have a lot of feelings about those relationships that I won’t get into.)
And before I go, I can’t exit this post without saying: Dick, Zee,

Knowledge and Revelations

Artemis knows things. Which isn’t to say she’s smart - though she is; you don’t get into Stanford without some pretty hefty brain power - but the things she knows aren’t taught in a classroom. There are things she feels. Deep in her bones. It isn’t instinct, which has served her well for as long as she can remember. Instinct is the hair rising on the back of her neck. Instinct is the tightness in her chest when things aren’t quite right. Instinct is the scars that tattoo her body, a body marred but unbroken. A body with a heart that keeps on beating to fight another day.

And it’s her beating heart that knows, even before she realizes it herself, sometimes. So when her breath catches just so, seeing his face, seeing him whole and safe, she knows what her heart knew all along.

Some might call it a revelation.

Some might call it love.

Dick Grayson knows things. Being smart gets you places, he’s found. Being clever buys another breath. Knowledge adds a few more minutes to the clock that will someday, inevitably, stop ticking. Knowledge is power. And if there’s anything he’s learned from working with Batman, it’s that there is always an answer. You just have to find it. Curiosity killed the cat, but it keeps man alive.

He knows how to mold words. To twist and shape them so that they fit. So that the meaning rings true. So the day when words escape him, when letters and cleverness seem to take flight, he finds himself a little scared. And a little excited. It’s the quickness in his heart when he sees her. The dull ache in his chest when she stands before him, strong and unbroken. Safe. It’s a feeling, not a fact, but it’s knowledge all the same. He just doesn’t know what to call it.

Perhaps it is a revelation.

Perhaps it is love.

Just a short little thing I wrote for Traught week. I couldn’t not contribute anything since my darling Zoe is helping organize ^_^ Perhaps the best that can be said of it, is that it’s short.

"Hey, I’m not that rusty." She said, feigning indignation. A wry smile graced her lips, as if to say, "but thanks for looking out.”

It might have been the adrenaline, it might have been nerves, it might have been all sorts of things. But, for whatever reason, that smile made Dick’s world stop. It was something unexplainable. Perhaps the stars had aligned at that moment, perhaps some power had granted him new clarity, but it was a revelation. Seeing her there, so confident and strong. Lethal grace somehow personified in flesh and bone. He could only stare in wonder.

Dick couldn’t find a name for the feeling. His lexicon had no way to define or describe whatever was consuming him at that moment. Could it even be called a feeling? Could it possibly be grouped with such banal emotions as anger or happiness?

The line between admiration and affection was a thin one, and one he might have already crossed. Perhaps into something so much more.

I don’t consider myself an expert at writing Traught at all, but I read zoetekohana’s post and I must say, it rather inspired me. So this little trifle is dedicated to her. I hope she likes it and I hope you like it as well!
